Summary
Online blackjack play with a computerized dealer is significantly faster than play in brick & mortar casinos with a live dealer. However, speed varies dramatically between different softwares. Playtech, Rival, and Grand Virtual are near instant when configured for maximum speed. While Chartwell, Random Logic, and Boss are annoyingly slow. More detail about specific softwares is below.
Analysis
I tested software speeds by setting all configuration options for maximum speed (including no animation when possible), measuring the maximum number of hands I could maintain for 1 minute, then repeating until I had a consistent result. Tests were done using a broadband network connection. Note that maximum speed depends on skill as well as software. A player who needs to check some hands on strategy tables will not be able to maintain the rates listed below for the faster softwares.
